Build and send a campaign

Design an email in the drag-and-drop builder, check it, choose who gets it, and send or schedule it, with optional subject-line A/B testing.

  • Editors and owners

Open Email → Campaigns. The page has four tabs: All campaigns, Automations, Templates and Outreach. This page covers one-off campaigns; see Automations for timed sequences.

  1. Choose New campaign, give it an internal name (for example “March newsletter”), and press Create & design.
  2. Design the email in the builder.
  3. Press Send test to see it in your own inbox.
  4. Choose who gets it and when, then send or schedule it.

You can also start from the Templates tab: Start from a template (built-in layouts) or Your saved templates. Using one creates a new campaign for you to edit.

The builder is drag and drop. The top bar has the campaign name, Design with svay, Save as template, Send test and Preview. Set the Subject in the campaign settings panel.

Two- and three-column layouts are available. Use the Layers, Blocks and Layout panels to add and arrange things, and Customize to edit the selected block.

Pick one of three looks and the whole email follows its design system, in light and dark: Dispatch (editorial), Signal (bold) or Bloom (warm). Open the brand dialog to set your logo (from your website or an upload) and masthead.

Edit and Preview tabs switch modes. Preview on Desktop or Mobile, and in a light or dark inbox (“How this looks in a dark inbox (Apple Mail, Outlook)”). Zoom to Fit, 50%, 75%, 100% or 125%.

Merge tags personalise an email with a contact’s name or any imported field.

Images are resized to a maximum of 1200 px wide (logos up to 400 px).

  • Design with svay writes and lays out a whole email from a description (“Announce our Black Friday 30% off sale and drive clicks to the pricing page”).
  • Rewrite bar: select text and choose Simpler, More formal, More playful, or Tone….
  • Suggest subject lines with svay opens the subject lab, which can also set up an A/B test.

Open Email settings to set From name, From address, Reply-to, Physical mailing address and the Opt-out link wording. Until you verify your own sending domain, mail goes out from Svay’s verified domain.

From the builder, press Send. The sheet opens with “Choose who receives it and when.”

Campaign quality check. Before anything sends, Svay checks the email and tells you what to fix: the subject line (20 to 60 characters works best), links and image alt text, image-to-text balance, sentence length, preview text, the plain-text version, spam-trigger wording, the from-address, the physical mailing address, and whether anyone would actually receive it. If the check cannot run, Svay says “The pre-send check could not run — retry it before sending”.

When: Send now, or Schedule with a Scheduled send time.

Tick A/B test the subject line. Subject A is your subject; enter a variant as Subject B. Then choose:

  • Test size: 10%, 20%, 30% or 50% of your audience gets the test, split between A and B.
  • Winner by: Opens or Clicks.
  • Wait (hrs): how long to wait before choosing the winner.

The defaults are 20%, opens and 4 hours. After the wait, the subject with more opens (or clicks) goes to everyone else. The winner is chosen once, so changing the subject afterwards does not re-run the test.

  • A campaign moves through Draft, Scheduled, Sending, Sent, Paused or Failed.
  • Pause sending stops a send in progress (“recipients already mailed are unaffected”); Resume carries on. Cancel scheduled send stops a scheduled campaign from going out.
  • Retry failed recipients resends only to the people it could not reach.
  • Select two to four sent campaigns to compare them (picking a fifth drops the oldest). See Reports.

Scheduled sends, A/B winners and automation steps are processed by Svay on a clock that runs about every five minutes. A campaign scheduled for 9:00 can therefore leave a few minutes after 9:00. Svay also throttles every send, at about 600 messages a minute by default, rather than mailing everyone in one burst.

“Fix what svay found before sending.” The quality check found a problem. Open it and follow the advice.

My scheduled campaign did not go out. Allow five minutes after the scheduled time. If it is still Scheduled well after that, contact support.

Sending stopped part-way. The campaign shows Sending. Svay resumes interrupted sends on its own clock (about every five minutes) and carries on with the people not yet mailed. If a send was cut off at the exact moment an email was being handed over, Svay cannot know whether it was delivered, so it does not mail that person again. They show as Failed in the report with the reason, and you choose whether to Retry failed recipients (which could mean one duplicate if the first one did arrive). Use Pause sending if you want a send to stop.

Opens look low or odd. Opens are measured with a tracking pixel, so treat them as approximate. Clicks are more reliable.
