Segments
Save rules that pick out contacts, see the live count, and send to them.
- Editors and owners
A segment is a saved rule over your audience, not a fixed list: “everyone tagged trial who has not
opened a campaign”. It stays current as contacts change. Any segment can be the audience of a campaign.
Open Email → Audience → Segments and choose New segment.
Build a rule
Section titled “Build a rule”Give the segment a name (for example “VIP openers”) and add conditions. Choose whether a contact must match all of them or any of them. Contacts are included automatically when they match.
| Field | What you can ask |
|---|---|
| Tag | Has, or doesn’t have, a tag. |
| Email domain | Is, or is not, a domain such as acme.com. |
| First name | Is set, or is not set. |
| Signed up | In the last N days, or more than N days ago. |
| Custom field | A field equals or contains a value. |
| Engagement | Opened any campaign, clicked any campaign, or never opened. |
| Status | Is subscribed, pending, unsubscribed, cleaned or lead. |
A live count under the rule shows how many people it catches as you build (“Calculating…” while it updates), so you can see the size before you commit. Press Save segment.
Use a segment
Section titled “Use a segment”On the send screen, choose By segment and pick it. See Build a campaign.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- The preview is forgiving; sending is strict. A rule that is only half built can still show a count, but Svay refuses to send with a broken rule instead of widening your audience.
- Unsubscribed and Cleaned contacts are never mailed, whatever the rule says.
- Edit or delete a segment from its row. Deleting one does not delete the contacts in it, but campaigns that target it will need a new audience.
